If you’ve been thinking about improving the appearance of your teeth with cosmetic dentistry, you may assume that your only option is an involved or expensive procedure. Thankfully, that’s just not true! Cosmetic bonding is a simple, cost-effective way to mask multiple different flaws and is usually done in just one visit. With years of experience as a cosmetic dentist, Dr. Cea has used bonding to help countless patients achieve a smile they love. If you want to know more about how cosmetic bonding can help you, contact us to schedule a consultation. You might be surprised at how easy it can be to fix minor cosmetic issues!

How Do Teeth Become Chipped and Discolored?

Your teeth have three layers: The hard, outer layer is called enamel, while the softer middle layer is called dentin. The innermost layer is called the pulp and contains the nerve. Unfortunately, although enamel is the hardest substance in your body, it isn’t indestructible and can still become damaged and discolored for many reasons.

First, the enamel layer naturally becomes thinner over time. This leaves it susceptible to small cracks and chips from chewing forces and other daily wear-and-tear. Also, as the enamel gets thinner, it exposes the darker layer of dentin underneath and gives the teeth a discolored appearance.

Fortunately, cosmetic bonding is a great solution because it replaces damaged enamel and restores a beautiful appearance to the teeth.

Which Issues Can Cosmetic Bonding Correct?

At Springs Dental Care, Dr. Cea can correct many different issues with this fast and easy procedure:

It’s important to note, however, that we may recommend alternative procedures for more severe cosmetic issues. As a cosmetic dentist, we always plan your treatment with the goal of making sure you love your final results.

What Kind of Material Is Used For Cosmetic Bonding?

For this procedure, we bond a dental material called composite resin to your teeth. It’s matched to your existing color, so many of our patients prefer to whiten first to help their results look even better.

Composite resin is the same material that’s used to fill cavities in the back teeth, so it’s quite strong and durable. And, in cases where we’re simply adding material to your teeth (as opposed to removing damaged tooth structure from a cavity), numbing beforehand isn’t usually necessary.

What Are the Benefits?

Our patients love cosmetic bonding for a variety of reasons. First, it’s fast and easy and typically takes just 30-60 minutes per tooth. For anyone who has relatively minor flaws to correct, it’s a simple, affordable way to transform your smile.

It’s also very natural looking, so your smile will still look like your own, just better. And with little to no recovery afterward, you can resume your normal activities and eat and drink normally right away. With good oral hygiene habits, regular checkups, and avoiding chewing on things like ice, pens, and hard candy, your bonding can last at least 5-10 years.

If you want a smile you feel great about, with minimal dental work, contact us today!
